HMS Lake Loop | |||
Distance: | 9.8 Miles | ||
Elevation Gain: | 469 Feet
Garmin Connect Route Info
A nice quick jaunt around the lake. Beautiful scenery, and the lake is visible for most of the ride. The section along State Park Rd from the park to Glendale is a bit narrow, and will have boat trailers during the busy summer months, so be careful!
DCL Circumnavigation Road Bike Ride
Distance: | 43.75 Miles | ||
Elevation Gain: | 3,853 Feet
Garmin Connect Route Info
Bike around the lake! The course takes a couple odd jaunts to try to bike as much of the shoreline as possible. However, it does avoid going down some no outlet areas like Boyscout Road to avoid doing a lot of back tracking.

The "Garrett's Greatest 25" ride is a beautiful 25 mile loop that is less extreme than the other three Gran Fondo ride options. Like the other Gran Fondo rides, the "Garrett's Greatest 25" ride starts and finishes from ASCI atop Wisp Mountain.
Garrett County Gran Fondo: Fabulous 44 |
|||
Distance: | 44.7 Miles | ||
Elevation Gain: | 4,921 Feet
Route Info | |||

At 44.6 miles and 4,900 feet of climbing, the "Fabulous 44" is no cakewalk. But it is fabulous, and with only three "severe" climbs is very achievable! The route follows the Diabolical Double, Savage Century, and Masochistic Metric rides through Checkpoint 1 at mile 18.6 in Friendsville, Md. Leaving Friendsville, however, the "Fabulous 44" climbs very gradually for six miles alongside beautiful Bear Creek while the other three rides take a far more punishing route repeatedly climbing up and plummeting down extremely steep hills. The "Fabulous 44" reconvenes with the other rides at mile 26.8, the base of Bowman Hill. Oh, Bowman Hill. At 1.1 miles and 800 ft elevation gain it has to be experienced to be understood. Once over the top of Bowman Hill, the "Fabulous 44" and Masochistic Metric rides diverge from the other two longer rides and share the same route to the finish line atop Wisp Mountain at ASCI. Compact cranks or triples are very strongly encouraged. |

The "Masochistic Metric" Century is a beautiful and extremely challenging 62 mile ride that highlights the extraordinary beauty and terrain of rural Garrett County in western Maryland. At 62 miles and 8,000 feet of climbing, the "Masochistic Metric" is as challenging a single metric century ride as exists. The route follows the "Diabolical Double" and "Savage Century" rides through mile 47 before turning south to head through beautiful, rolling farmland culminating in the climb up Overlook Pass to the summit finish atop Wisp Mountain. The "Masochistic Metric" route includes the majority of the steepest, and for many people the toughest, of the climbs of the Savage Century and Diabolical Double routes. Compact cranks or triples are very strongly encouraged. |

The Savage Century is an extremely challenging and beautiful century that shares the initial 59 and final 14 miles with the Diabolical Double. At 102 miles and over 12,700 feet of climbing, the Savage Century is a worthy epic ride in it's own right. Compact cranks or triples are very strongly encouraged.
Garrett County Gran Fondo: Diabolical Double |
|||
Distance: | 125.6 Miles | ||
Elevation Gain: | 16,559 Feet

The Diabolical Double is an extreme epic ride that highlights the incredible beauty and severe terrain of the Allegheny Mountains of western Maryland and West Virginia. The Diabolical Double was selected in 2009 by Rapha Continental as one of the top 25 Epic Rides in North America and riders unanimously agreed the ride ranked was "one of the most stunning and demanding rides of the summer". At 125 miles and 16,500 feet of climbing, this ride is an extreme challenge on par with any single day ride in the world, including the European climbing classics such as Etape du Tour, la Marmotte, and the classic Italian Gran Fondos. Compact cranks or triples are very strongly encouraged. |

Fork Run Trail System | (click for Google Map route)
Distance: | 8 Miles | Elevation Gain: | 1462 Feet |
This is a brand new biking area for the Deep Creek Lake (DCL) area! Brought to us by our good freinds at Garrett Trails some of the northern loop is still under construction, but we will hopefully see completion in the summer of 2013 The Fork run trails consist of two sections of single-track multiuse trail. Located off the parking area is a low intensity section containing 1 mile of easily negotiated trail. Exiting the North side of this beginner area is the start of the more advanced single track. This trail is a 1.5 mile out-&-back trail that takes users through typical deciduous forest. This section is recommended for users with intermediate to advanced mountain biking skills. A majority of the trail is true single track with other sections making use of old logging roads. |

Margroff MTB Bike Course | (click for Google Map route)
Distance: | 5.5 Miles | Elevation Gain: | 820 Feet |
Best single track in Garrett County. A 5.5 mile loop with lots of rolling hills, and 90% marked with white blazes except for the field intersections. From RT 219 in Accident, just past the Dodge/Jeep dealership, turn onto Accident-Bittinger Road; travel past the Elementary School ~.5 miles to Fratz Road (Accident-Bittinger road makes a hard right). Follow Fratz Road all the way untill you see a sign "Entering Savage River State Forest" the parking area is about 150 yards past this and up the road on the left. |
